To investigate patterns in reactions, scientists carry out experiments systematically. This means that an experiment is done over and over again using different combinations of reactants.

You are going to investigate if there is a pattern in displacement reactions. You are going to do experiments systematically and look for patterns in the reactivity of metals.

You are going to investigate the reaction between metal and salt solutions.

Safety: Wear eye protection.

Take a spotting tile and arrange metals

as shown in the diagram.

Copy this diagram onto a piece of poster

Paper

Then take one of the salt solutions.

Using a pipette, place a few drops of the salt solution on one piece of each of the metals.  Look for a reaction.

If a reaction happens, place a tick on the results table; if it does not, place a cross on
the results table.

Do the same with each salt solution.
